Sandra Shaw Homer has lived in Costa Rica for 27 years and in 2010 decided to take the leap of a lifetime -- a 49-day trip around the South Pacific on a container ship. She says you have to love the ocean, which rings through beautifully in her book about her experience, "Letters from the Pacific." Since then, she's "freightered" to Europe and back ("Journey to the Joie de Vivre") and along the coast of South America. In between her travels, she has been working on a memoir of her life here, "Evelio's Garden," which she hopes to see published next year. Several poems and works of creative non-fiction have been published in literary journals.
